“Oak and iron guard me well Or else I’m dead and doomed to hell.”

Today, I do the unthinkable and talk about a book. Remember those?

Follow along as I dive into The Hedge Knight, George R. R. Martin’s first novella from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I explore the story of Dunk the Lunk as he sets out on a new life as Ser Duncan the Tall, and how he soon meets a cheeky, bald-headed orphan named Egg, who becomes his squire. Together, this scrappy duo may just be destined for greatness.

In this episode, I break down the first tale of Dunk and Egg—two unlikely heroes who stand up for the smallfolk against the powerful and morally corrupt. It’s rarely wise to insult the Crown, but a true knight remembers his vows. I also explore Ser Duncan’s ability to tolerate distress, his generally good judgment (with a few notable exceptions), and his use of helpful self-talk and cue words in his first battle.

This episode is a must-listen for anyone preparing for a trial by combat. Check it out!
