The Day of the Beast (1995) and sport psychology

“Father, I want to confess.” “What have you done?” “Nothing, Father. I haven't sinned. But I intend to commit all the evil I can.”

Today we crusade against the Antichrist with the Christmas horror classic The Day of the Beast (El día de la bestia, 1995). I discuss how a ragtag group of misfits — a priest, a metalhead, and a TV psychic — team up to try to save the world. Father Angel believes he has deciphered the code of the Apocalypse: to gain Satan’s trust and stop the Antichrist, he must commit as much sin as possible. I’m skeptical, but he’s the expert.

I walk through Father Angel’s first steps in the film’s opening scene, José the metalhead’s role as protector and newfound friend, and Cavan the psychic’s transformation from charlatan to unlikely hero. We explore the commitment, teamwork, and surprising nobility of these misunderstood saviors.

Did our heroes prevent the Apocalypse? Or is killing the Antichrist, in the end, more about the friends we make along the way? Take a listen — and celebrate the season with my other Christmas episodes!
